Luxurious London Getaway

An insightful London guide for a spectacular weekend getaway. Get ideas for some great places to stay, things to do and places to eat.

With the Olympic Games hype having died down, but with all the benefits still around, it is the perfect time to visit London. There’s so much to do in London and as the locals still have the ‘Olympic Spirit’ coursing through their veins, you’re bound to get a brilliant perspective of one of the most iconic capitals in the world.

London is a great city for everyone, but as a group of friends this city can really be a stage of entertainment for you.

Whether you are a group of gents or ladies, if you’re looking to have a fun weekend away, consider staying at The Zetter Townhouse. Located in the Barbican area of the city, it can act as a perfect base for your weekend. It is smart yet casual, refined whilst devoid of pomp; the ideal crash pad for a group hunting for a weekend of frivolity.

In the evening, once you’ve checked in and put your bags down, how about visiting the new tallest building in London for a spot of dinner. The Shard is set to open a series of restaurants later this year, all with spectacular views across London. Be the first ones in to mark a truly memorable occasion, maybe even a classy hen weekend in London.

After your meal, rub shoulders with the social elite of London; Mahiki is one of the most prestigious clubs in the capital. It is a well known celebrity haunt, so your best bet to getting in is to bring a copy of Rolling Stone with you on the front cover or alternatively book yourself a table or one of the VIP rooms. These are generally not cheap, but well worth it. Besides you could find yourself next to Prince Harry, and as we all know he is a seasoned party animal. The No-Tell Motel VIP room includes a double bed, presumably for people who get tired from dancing... so I’m sure Harry never used it.

The next day you could head to Clapham Common, despite being hugely popular (especially on sunny days); there are still a few hidden gems to be found. The Avalon, a nearby gastro pub, is a great example of that; alongside its food, this pub is also a winner because of its fantastic beer garden. On top of the usual classics you can also sample one of the many mouth-watering items on the menu such as the wild boar and apple sausages, the hake goujons, the veal cappacio or, if you get enough people, you can request a hog roast. In addition to this, the guys will be particularly pleased as they cater for the sports fanatics screening live football, cricket and rugby, when available. Also Clapham Common is a great place for a kick about or a spot of quick cricket, once your food has gone down.

For the ladies a trip to Cowshed of Shoreditch House could well lead to rewarding benefits. Shoreditch House is a private members’ club which has recently opened the Cowshed, a wonderfully luxurious private spa, to the public. It prides itself on the unpretentious decadence it offers its customers, in both the experience and the surroundings. Members of the Shoreditch House are also privy to the rooftop restaurant which is simply sublime and also happens to be adjacent to the pool, a highlight worth signing up for alone and undoubtedly the perfect place for a civilised glass of prosecco... or two.

If you are on respectable stag do in London, a great spot for a drink and maybe a light snack is the Vista Bar of Trafalgar. Aptly named, it overlooks Trafalgar Square from a lofty vantage point. It’s a really classy way to see the world famous square and an absolute must for first timers to the city.

For your final night The Cuckoo Club is a good choice with fantastic music set in a chic ambiance. However, again, it would be advised that you book a table to guarantee entry as only clubbing royalty walk in without one. It is sensationally popular with the London crowd, who have a certain panache, and celebrities alike. Alternatively the Funky Buddha in the heart of Mayfair is also a popular celebrity hot spot which provides a prestigious VIP service. One of the private areas even comes with its own bar and is manned by security, should you feel you need it. This is an essential spot for the discerning night time reveller, one who likes to mix creativity with style.
